  • 2 cans (28 oz each) whole San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 medium sweet onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 lb ground beef or pork
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until fragrant and golden.
  2. Add ground meat to the pot, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned all over.
  3. Pour in the canned tomatoes and sprinkle in Italian seasoning. Stir well to combine.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for at least one hour, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  5. Just before serving, stir in torn basil leaves for added flavor and freshness.
  6. Serve generously over al dente pasta or on crusty bread, topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
