Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 large onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients on your counter.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of butter and add sliced onions. Cook until golden brown (10-15 minutes), stirring occasionally.
  3. While onions are cooking, form ground beef into 4 patties, season with salt and pepper.
  4. Increase heat to medium-high. Add patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until desired doneness.
  5. Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and some caramelized onions. Place another slice of rye on top to form sandwiches.
  6. In the same skillet, melt remaining butter over medium heat and grill each sandwich until golden brown on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side).
