  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded aged cheddar cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Whisk in the heavy cream, seasoning it with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour half of the cream sauce over them, then sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  4. Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, sauce, and cheese.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Let sit for 10-15 minutes before serving.
