Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse basmati rice under cold water until it runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent (3-4 minutes).
  3. Stir in minced garlic, cumin, and turmeric; cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add rinsed rice to the saucepan, followed by vegetable broth. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender.
  6. Remove from heat and let sit covered for another 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
