  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Wash, peel, and thinly slice the potatoes into rounds about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over them, then add half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.
