  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium sweet onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 cup Cheese Whiz or provolone cheese
  • 1 cup sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 sturdy sandwich buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté diced onions and green bell pepper until softened.
  2. Increase heat slightly, add ground beef and sliced mushrooms; cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the sloppy joe sauce and let simmer for about 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  4. Lower heat, sprinkle cheese over the mixture, cover briefly until melted.
  5. Toast sandwich buns lightly if desired. Spoon cheesy beef mixture onto buns and serve hot.
