  • 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil recommended)
  • 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef or sausage (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. If using regular noodles, boil water and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  3. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and half the basil. Mix until creamy.
  4. If adding meat, brown it in a saucepan over medium heat. Drain excess fat and stir in marinara sauce; simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in a baking dish. Layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, more sauce, and repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Top with final noodles, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
