  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup ice-cold water
  • 1 cup ground beef or chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Cut in chilled butter until crumbly.
  2. Gradually add ice-cold water while mixing until the dough forms; do not over-knead.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Sauté onions in oil until translucent; add protein and spices, cooking until browned.
  5. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick; cut circles about 4-5 inches wide.
  6. Place filling on one half of each circle; fold and seal edges using fingers or a fork.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes or fry in hot oil until golden brown.
