Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 3-4)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp garlic-ginger paste
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 14 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, sliced (mild or hot)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix yogurt, garlic-ginger paste, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and lemon juice. Add cubed chicken and let sit for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Sauté onions: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook chopped onions until golden brown (5-7 minutes).
  3. Add spices: Stir in green chilies and cook briefly before adding ground spices. Stir continuously until aromatic (about 1 minute).
  4. Create the sauce: Pour in canned tomatoes and simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  5. Add cream: Reduce heat and stir in the cream until smooth; simmer gently for another 5 minutes.
  6. Finish with chicken: Add marinated chicken to the sauce and cook until fully cooked through (15-20 minutes).
