Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Warm milk to about 110°F (43°C), stir in sugar, add yeast, and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. Prepare the Dough: Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Make a well, add melted butter and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined into a sticky dough.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer to a floured surface, knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it Rise: Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Create Filling: Combine chopped apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  6. Roll it Out: Roll the risen dough into a rectangle (16 x 12 inches). Spread softened butter over it and add the apple mixture.
  7. Slice & Bake: Roll tightly, slice into 12 rolls, place in a greased baking dish, let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar with milk and vanilla extract; drizzle over cooled rolls.
