  • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough
  • 3 cups tart apples (Granny Smith), peeled and sliced
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a greased baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts.
  3. Layer six sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each with melted butter.
  4. Spread half of the apple filling evenly over the phyllo layers. Repeat layering with more phyllo and the remaining filling.
  5. Finish with several more layers of phyllo brushed with butter. Cut into diamond shapes.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. Prepare honey syrup by boiling together honey and water until slightly thickened. Drizzle over hot baklava.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
