Black Forest cake is an irresistible dessert that combines layers of moist chocolate cake, tangy cherries, and fluffy whipped cream for a flavor explosion. This classic treat is perfect for celebrations or as a delightful indulgence any day of the week.

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup milk (or almond/soy milk)
  • 1 cup tart cherries (fresh or canned)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • Dark chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar. In another bowl, cream butter until smooth; add eggs one at a time while mixing.
  3. Gradually mix in milk and then fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before removing from pans.
  5. Slice cooled layers horizontally if desired. Layer with whipped cream and cherries, repeating until all layers are stacked.
  6. Frost the top and sides with remaining whipped cream; garnish with chocolate shavings.
